Youth is Wasted on the Young

A smile meets my imperfections,
An acknowledgement of a burning son,
The heart racing when tracing,
Youth that is wasted on the young.

A smile like an affectation,
An awful judgement, poor pun,
That parts the lacing, facing,
Youth that is wasted on the young.

A smile, but a deflection
And false encouragement, undone,
Then embracing a shell, encasing,
Youth that is wasted on the young.

A smile, like an erroneous attraction,
An instrument of the perfect sun,
The fool chasing and wasting,
Youth that is wasted on the young.

A smile, that subtle distraction,
As fulfilment fakes a hit-and-run,
This defacing and replacing,
Youth that is wasted on the young.
