For Prophet and King

How can one think thoughts

That may be profound

When people keep filling

The silence with sound?

Madness and gladness

Is all in the mind

But if the ears are full

Then the eyes become blind

For quietude is a rarity

That seems all but lost

Dig a grave for metaphysics

For it paid the cost

How can one think thoughts

That may be profound

When people keep filling

The silence with sound?

Inspired by Sahm King’s quote from Khalil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’

‘You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts’.

Two fantastic philosophers, please visit Sahm at ‘the arkside of thought’ and see the tremendous work he and his team do for poetry and poets at ‘we drink because we’re poets’.

  1. Ok, now I need to go off and meditate for a bit, after the piece of inspiration.

  2. Great poem. Makes me wonder when the last great philosopher was around. The deep thinking of life and living seems to have become a dying art.
